Some women desire large breasts to feel like a real woman, but there are also big-breasted women, who would want their breasts to be many sizes smaller, because they know the problems, which come with having ample breasts. Everything is not as simple as it may seem to the bystander. Women with too large breasts often suffer from chronic back and neck aches, shoulders are bruised from the bra straps and they may also have poor posture. There have also been problems with the circulatory system and breathing. Taking these problems into consideration, women have breast reduction surgery not only for aesthetic reasons, but because it is necessary from the medical point of view. Big breasts interfere with many (sporting) activities; even sleeping may be more difficult. Furthermore, besides the physical discomfort, big-breasted women feel clumsy, especially if their breasts are not in proportion with the otherwise tiny and slender body. Breast reduction surgery could just be the solution to these kinds of problems, since it guarantees smaller, lighter and firmer breasts. You could also make your nipples or the area around the nipples firmer.
The most usual procedure is the following: the surgeon makes an anchor-shaped incision around the areola, which widens below and follows the inframmary fold - therefore, three incisions are made. Excess fat, skin and breast glandular tissue are removed from the breast. The nipples with the skin surrounding the nipple or areola are moved to another position and if needed, their size is also reduced. In order to give the breast a new contour, the skin around the former areola is brought down from both sides of the breast and around the areola and is stitched. The stitches will be around the areola, the vertical stitching under the nipple and the horizontal under the breast. If the breasts aren't excessively large, then the vertical stitch may be avoided with some techniques. The position of the areola is usually changed with not removing it from the nerves and blood vessels, but it is unavoidable with especially large breasts. However, this kind of transplantation makes the nipple and the areola permanently numb and with the reduction of the mammary glands may make future breastfeeding impossible. Occasionally, if it is necessary to only remove fat, breasts could be reduced with liposuction, which leaves minimal scars. Nevertheless, in that case breast skin must be very supple, otherwise it will be loose afterwards. An elastic band is tied around the breasts after the surgery and a drain could also be placed for a day or for some weeks.
Breast reduction surgery is performed only on patients whose breasts are fully developed, expect in some unusual cases, when large breasts cause serious physical discomfort. Breast reduction is also not recommended to women, who want to breastfeed in the future. Also heavily overweight patients and women who have problems with their heart, lungs or kidneys are patients with not a very good potential. If you plan a considerable weightloss, then it is reasonable to do it before the breast reduction surgery, since breasts may lose a part of their shape and bottom out. In some cases the surgeon might indicate a need to lose some weight before the surgery. Women, who have sagging or too large breasts, whereas there is more gland than fat in the breast, and women, who have not reached menopause, might expect a good result from this surgery.
You should discuss the preparations for the surgery, the surgery and how to take care of your breasts afterwards before the surgery with the surgeon or consultant. You should certainly have a mammogram before the surgery. If the patient smokes, she has to stop it for a certain period before and after the surgery, since smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood and it hinders recovery. Smokers have often wound complications and as a result of that may have larger and hypertrophic scars. The surgeon could also impose restrictions on eating, alcohol, vitamins or medications. The surgeon may recommend to diet before the surgery as well. After the surgery, at the beginning of recovery, breasts will probably be sore, very tender and swollen. You should take painkillers if needed and antibiotics to lessen the probability of infection. You should wear a surgical bra, which the clinic will supply you with. The wound should also be protected with a band. Sutures will be removed one by one during three weeks, absorbable sutures will take at least six weeks to disappear. You should avoid having sex for the first few weeks, because it could cause extra swelling. If your work is not too strenuous, you can go back to work 2-3 weeks after the surgery, but sporting activities should be minimal. It could take up to a month for the pain to disappear. You can see the final result after six months or a years.
You will probably get firmer breasts in a more pleasing size after the surgery, which will improve your quality of life substantially. However, the surgery is just the beginning, you will have to take care of your breasts regularly henceforth. You should use silicone plasters or some respective procedures that can be done in your home or at a beauty parlor in order to make the scars less visible. You should continually wear a supportive bra, since aging and gravity make the breast older. If you wish that your breasts would retain their size, you should avoid weight changes and getting pregnant. You should also keep in mind that if your breast areola was transplanted during the surgery, it may not be possible to breastfeed anymore. You should keep examining your breasts and have a mammogram once in a while. Although breast reduction surgery has not been promoted as a procedure that reduces the risk of breast cancer, the risk decreases on account of the breast tissue that is removed. The risk of breast cancer is probably also lower because women start to exercise more and eat a healthier diet to keep their weight stable after the surgery, maybe even give up smoking.
In addition to wearing a bra, which should be obligatory to women with large breasts, you could also take care of your breasts with moisturizers. After reaching the thirties, the tissues start to lose their suppleness and the skin becomes drier. You can get good results with masks that trim and reduce wrinkles on the breasts. Training your breast muscles is also good for you, it even makes your breasts more attractive. The larger the breasts, the more care they need.
