What Are Facial Injections?

Facial injections are a fast and effective procedure to eliminate wrinkles temporarily. This is a means for the anti-wrinkle fight. Small doses of Botox can cure different health problems. For example it can help with neck muscle dystonia (contortions of the muscles of neck and/or shoulder), blepharospasms, strabismus or squinting; Botox can also help with excessive sweating and other health problems. Botox has won sympathy as an alternative to plastic surgery in the recent years - it is used for smoothing or eliminating wrinkles. Restylane is a clear sterile gel composed of stabilized hyaluronic acid. This resembles the non-stabilized hyaluronic acid found in the body, which helps to optimize the water content of skin cells and connective tissue, guaranteeing normal skin moisture and suppleness.

How Cosmetic Injections Work?

Botox is primarily meant to smooth wrinkles or frown lines between the eyebrows, but it is also great for the horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and for the crow's feet at the outer corner of the eyes. Botox is used for smoothing wrinkles, which are caused by tightening of the muscles. Botox creates weakness or paralyses the specific muscle that causes the wrinkle or blocks nerve signals, so that the muscle cannot tighten any more and therefore the wrinkle is less visible. Due to Botox's paralysing effect, it cannot be used for wrinkles around the mouth, since it would hinder eating and talking and make your facial expressions unnatural. Botox is also not good for wrinkles caused by sun damage. Botox resolves after some time and the muscles recover their normal function. Restylan can smooth all the wrinkles of the face, both the wrinkles around your mouth and at the outer corner of the eye; it is also used for filling cheeks and enhance lips. Restylane penetrates the inward layers of the skin and fills the wrinkles to make them smoother. Your body will clear away the injected gel in time.

Procedure

Botox is injected without anesthesia, since the injections are not painful, but discomforting. At the same time the surgeon might use an anesthetic cream in the injection site. The injection sites are cleaned prior to that and the surgeon will make small markings. Next, Botox is injected to the muscle that causes the wrinkle, which may not be exactly under the wrinkle. Botulin found in Botox will fix to the nerve endings, hindering the muscle to contract.

Pre-procedure and post-procedure advice

You should discuss it with your doctor whether it will solve your problem. Botox and Restylane are not as effective to all wrinkles. Skin type and thickness and how deep the wrinkles are will determine whether the injections will help. You should not have Botox injections while being pregnant or nursing. You should provide your doctor with your medical history, illnesses you have had, medications and vitamins you are taking and whether you have had any problems with facial nerves or muscles. The effects of Botox will appear in 3-7 seven days after the procedure, sometimes in a few weeks. The effect may last up to 3-4 months, even 6 months or longer with Restylane. Then you can have another procedure. The muscle may become diminutive and the patient may develop muscular atrophy with repetitive procedures, which means that the effects last longer. You can continue with your daily life right after the procedure. You might have a headache or flu symptoms at first, but these are temporary. You can use make-up in the injection site, but you should be careful with rubbing or massaging your face for the first 48 hours. You should also avoid direct sunlight and going to the sauna at first.

Taking care of your face

The first wrinkles will appear around the eyes where the skin is especially thin. It may happen already in your twenties. Facial skin will become drier and more drooping during the thirties. Collagen and elastin start to break down, water content in skin decreases and cell regeneration slows down. In addition to that, sunlight also quickens the aging of the skin and UV-radiation is often the reason for premature wrinkles. Excessive sunlight (also solarium) dries the skin and affects the collagen and elastin in your skin. Smoking also helps to quicken the skin's aging and getting wrinkles. Smoking dries the skin and the facial expressions during smoking form wrinkles around your mouth. Raising eyebrows, squinting your eyes and smiling all the time forms specific wrinkles. A groove or fold forms under the skin every time you use one of your facial muscles; the muscle will lose its flexibility with aging and will not pull back to its former position, but forms a permanent wrinkle. You should prefer anti-aging creams that include retinol, alpha hydroxy acid, coenzyme Q10, copper peptide, vitamin C, tee extract. Additional and maybe quicker ways to fight the wrinkles are different skin rejuvenating procedures, e.g. chemical skin peeling, micro peeling, micro and laser polishing, etc. It is possible to smooth your wrinkles a little with these procedures and make your face look fresh and shining. Facelift is also a way of getting rid of wrinkles, but though the result is long-lasting, the recovery is also long.
